Note: up to 65 cm, Several yellow-edged dark blotches on body and many short, depressible spines. Inhabits reef edges and slopes, during the day usually hides in caves or under ledges, but may venture out to feed under plate corals. Juveniles occur in lagoons and estuaries. Solitary. Feeds on crustaceans and mollusks. Although not usually sold as a food fish, it has been associated with ciguatera poisoning.
